Get your game on for Dew’s ultimate DoTA 2 challenge!

Mountain Dew shifts gear from extreme physical challenges to extreme gaming

The annual Dew Challenge by Mountain Dew is back! But this year, the brand is totally reinventing itself to bring you challenges within the digital realm via extreme finger-pumping and brain-twisting challenges in the most lucrative online electronic sports tournament in Malaysia.

The Dew Challenge has always prided itself as being a platform that encourages individuals to “Do the Dew” by pushing boundaries through exhilarating physical and mental challenges. While this year’s theme may have changed, Mountain Dew’s passion for action, youth and entertainment continues to shine. This year’s edition of Dew Challenge focuses on amateur teams going up against one another in what is arguably one of the biggest electronic sports challenges –Defense of the Ancients (DoTA) 2, a multiplayer online game.

Based on insights that state the estimated 1.5 million DoTA players in Malaysia rank third in Southeast Asia and the booming local e-gaming scene, this year’s Dew Challenge is set to host the largest DoTA 2 amateur tournament in Malaysia.

The Dew Challenge DoTA 2 tournament offers a massive RM150,000 prize pool split into two categories: Regional and a two-stage College/University challenge. An estimated 1,120 participants from 224 teams are scheduled to participate in five regional challenges in Johor, Penang, Kuantan, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, while at least 640 students in 126 teams from 16 colleges and universities nationwide are due to compete in the College category.

The top four or six teams from each region will qualify for the national-level Group stage on December 4, as will the top four teams from the College/University edition. From the 28 finalists in the Group stage, eight teams will battle it out to “own the realm” and a share of the RM150,000 prize pool in the Grand Finale on December 5-6.

“Mountain Dew’s definition of extreme challenges does not only mean sweating, climbing and running, but all activities that get your adrenaline pumping and mind working,” said Permanis Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, Hemalatha Ragavan. “We’re everywhere youth, passion, action and entertainment are, and our Dew Challenge 2015 promises all that and more for the participants, spectators and gaming fans.”

She added that all participants will get to enjoy their favorite Mountain Dew, the unique, energizing citrus flavors to pump them up prior to the challenge.

There’s also bound to be lots of enthusiasm in the air, because anywhere passion is, that’s where Mountain Dew is!

Dew Challenge DoTA 2 is set to begin with its qualifying rounds in Penang at Dot C.C on October 17-18, Kuantan at WOC Net Cafe on October 31-November 1, Kuala Lumpur at Orange eSports on November 7-8, Johor Bahru at King Surf on November 14-15, and Selangor at Invasion on November 21-22. Mountain Dew’s Dew Challenge is set to take the nation into “war” in the digital realm, so it’s time for everyone to “Do the Dew” with Mountain Dew!
