Interview with Tuzki King Organizer of Rising Star: I disqualified Team 9 (Davin Villa) & Team

1. Hi Tuzki. How are you?

I’m doing fine just abit busy with work I guess. Thank you for asking.

2. Can you tell us about yourself and your experience in Esports

I’ve been doing e-sport since 2003 (dota 1) until now. So far I was only active in organizing tournament and participating when it was still dota 1 in JB also Singapore.

3. Can you tell us the history for Rising Star and the purpose of you organizing it?

Rising star started on Oct 2014. Back then the sole purpose was to initiate new players to embark into competitive gaming. Most of M’sian players play Dota for fun and I think people should get more of esport like in foreign country where we can see esport taken to the next level. But of course, everyone needed a first step for the long walk. Thus, this mini tournament was created for that very purpose.

4. How many admins working for Rising Star?

Rising Star goes way back into 2014 but currently, there are 3 other admins who help out. Maybe because the others aren’t easily online and reachable, participant tends to refer to me for any details.

5. How much fee the team need to pay to participate in Rising Star?

For the fee, back in 2014, it was free of charge. Just for the record, its per participant not per team. Lots of issues arise, players unable to attend on playdate, players went missing and not giving commitment to the tournament, etc. Thus, a fee of RM5 per participant was introduced by the end of 2014. The fee was meant as a measurement towards participant so that they would give more commitment in the tournament so as to ensure the event went smoothly. That one also failed to succeed due to unethical behavior of most amateur players. Last updated on Jan 2015, a fee of RM10 was introduced in order to ensure the same thing never happen again. On Feb 2014 until end of Apr 2014, the tournament was held because I was busy attending to my family matters.

6. Recently, some of the participants raising an issue regarding admin, rules and his disqualification from the tournament. Can you tell us what happen?

For the current issue, there’s not much to talk about actually. Team 9 captain, Davin Villa was disqualified from the tournament due to provocations toward other teams. The provocation only started when they are owning or winning a match. Normally this wouldn’t be much of an issue but we need to understand other participant who joined in are mostly fresh players looking for their first competitive experience. It’s our job as admin to ensure that experience to be the best for them. Unfortunately, Davin Villa doesn’t think so and he choose to provoke opponents as he won the game. This issue arise from matches before the consolation match but I chose to ignore it even when I was inside the lobby when team 9 vs 5 at the qualifier stage (you can refer to Shazwina as she was playing a stand in on that match).

But things got out of hand when consolation match between team 9 and team 10 begin. The match itself is becoming the typical type of matches you would get in Sea region where taunting and provoking opposing team is normal. Due to both team was at fault, I disqualified Team 9 (Davin Villa) & Team 10 members (Jagaris & Jacky). Team 10 members take it calmly as they acknowledge their mistake but team 9 captain is a different story. Teammates from each team however are still entitled to the consolation prizes which will be distributed by next week.

7. What the reason you decided to DQ their team?

DQ was the decisive result due to obstruction of below general rule for any tournament conducted :

DotA 2 general rule: 1.3.3 Every participant has to show the needed respect towards referees and other participants. Insults and unfair or disrespectful behaviour towards anyone are not tolerated and will be punished.

8. He mentioned about Team 10 using a standin and he feel unfair. What are the rules for standin and any comment on his accusation?

Max stand in allowed was 3 player. Team 10 abuse that and so they were disqualified from the match as well. My comment? I guess he didn’t check with me before making such accusation lol.

9. Did you leave or being kicked from D2TM?

In the middle of the drama, I was kicked out from D2TM by the admins over there. I guess they’ve decided to have a group without drama and that’s good news. I held no grudge for them but one thing left me wondering. If you don’t want any drama in the first place, you can just delete the post before it gets big OR you can delete it after I was kicked out. Then again, the post was never deleted so I leave the judging to the people who can read and think rather than those who follows what other tells you.

10. Do you think the situation can be handle with better solution?

Yes I think things can be sorted out more wisely than now but I am not more than a mere human. Humans make mistake and recuperate from that mistake to become a better person. Mine was losing out to anger and not evaluating the issue in a much less controversial way but the community in D2TM which flames and criticize more than finding the proper solutions makes it even harder to solve the small issue.

11. Team 9 dqed from the tournament. According the prizes, there will be 4 teams will received the prizes. What is the final winners list for Rising Star?

The champion for May 2015 edition would be Team 6. 1st runner up is team 5 while 3rd and 4th place goes to team 9 & team 10 respectively. Prizes will be distributed by the following week as usual. Correction this tournament isn’t based on teams, it’s based on players. In this case, team 9 player (Davin Villa) and team 10 players (Jagatis & Jacky) was disqualified but not their teams.

12. Do you think those people that have issue with you bashing you due to personnel reason?

Bashing and flaming mostly came out from people I don’t really know. They are not in my friend list. I also don’t re-called having so much enemy online. So its quite a shock seeing so many of unknown people bashing flaming out of nowhere. Question is, do you get fame and wealth upon bashing plus flaming people? Or is it just base on sheer fun? I really don’t get it sometimes. Putting aside the fame, if you do get wealth by doing those 2 things, I want in!! lol..

13. How you deal with lots of bash and will you still continue making tournament in the future?

Dealing with unethical criticism isn’t my best virtue. However I can tell you this. When we fall along the road, we don’t stay there. We get up and we move on. That’s how I deal with things like this and yes, I will keep going as long as there is support from the esport team in Sea region.

14. Any advise to others tournament organizer and teams for future improvement?

My advise for tournament organizer? Errr I don’t think I am up for that since I am considered as at a very beginner stage on organizing tournaments in M’sia. For teams who are looking forward for professional gaming, keep the effort going. Maybe not now but in the future, you guys will surely represent M’sia in the international stage.
