Exclusive Interview with Billy Chin 1 of the veteran esports personnel in Sarawak eSports Community.

1. Hi Billy, How are you?

Yes, MasterRamen. I’m fine currently. Pursuing in the fields of property line but I’m staying active in E-Sports scenery.

2. You are 1 of the veteran Esports personnel from Sarawak. Can you tell us your background?

Ok. Cool. Actually, I am currently just 25 years old. I am an ex-competitive amateur player in the past few years starting from 2008. I am also a graduate of Swinburne Sarawak which is basically the top few universities revolving around Malaysia. I would like to thank my old team mates in DotA 1 to Dota 2 on behalf as well. Despite being older in the group, I supported them a lot in competitions they joined. They are also the top caliber amateur teams in Sarawak namely KMG , DCT and also a team that managed in 2010 which was the glorious MaDNet OutlawZ. It was all in the past though. Shoutout to anyone who supports us through hard times too!

3. Your name have stir some havoc with several female Dota 2 personnel. What the issue actually? Do you mind to explain to us

Basically, to me, I just wanted to advise to them but I did it slightly wrong. Actually, I support female gamers but only some of them are do worthy respects. I’ll name a few which is none other than Summer Ash! She’s truly passionate and matured. And there’s Shizuma whose a veteran girl gamer in the competitive DotA field as well. I think I do apologize for my rash thinking as well and I learn from it. I hope I can see this as a truce throughout the gaming community. It isn’t easy to please everyone, be it gaming or customers in the market too! Just be who you are.

4. Why you call the others unworthy to be respected?

I think maturity plays a big part in the gaming community scene. Especially when some are aligned to 322 and my verdict was right. But let’s skip this shall we? It’s more than just a past. Parents play a pivotal role in seeing our gaming scene. I stand strong with my support from seniors and others who supported my rightful thoughts and forgive the wrong ideas that I put into it.

5. How big is Sarawak Dota 2 community? and how to improve the scene there?

The current Sarawak Dota 2 scene is still growing although it is quite stale sometimes. I think there are more than 10,000 players covering Sarawak that plays it from casual games to competitive events. I think that in order to improve the scene in Sarawak. The cyber cafes or namely LAN shops will have to work it out with E-Sports associated body to promote a stronger awareness to E-Sports and also the event it brings. The aim to be professional and matured is one of the goal I always wanted to see. The passion in Sarawak gamers are a lot especially in Dota 2 or maybe CS:GO. I am suggesting that Hearthstone, a card game made from Blizzard to be the next step promoted into Sarawak and of course the entire Malaysia scene.

6. We saw you always have negative point of view about Major All Stars. Anything you would like to comment? Its the biggest Dota 2 tournamen in SEA

I think they did not respond to the customers who bought the tickets and explained to them carefully. Which is why some of the gamers have been discouraged to attend the event. I believe it is a big tournament itself but it needs to chatter to most of it’s customer and not expecting more complaints from them. And the event schedule should be made earlier before the projected timeline to please the crowds whom are mostly gamers and maybe senior audiences. That’s it for now.

7. ESM Pakteh and Rinie visited Sarawak at Swinburne event. What is your opinion regarding ESM direction for Sarawak Scene

ESM is doing a very good job in supporting the Sarawak scene with their visits to our local event. I personally think it was a great move to organize tournament or events in the university which is Swinburne. The best place and venue for huge crowds and spectators alike. I took a selfie with Pakteh and his very friendly and loves games as well. Not to forget! Our Rinie whom is an ex-FIFA WCG champion that not many actually know but I do! He did well in giving off his speech concerning E-Sports. I like the progress their making.

8. Ehome. My created by Mushi and there various reaction from the fans about the team. What is your point of view about them?

It still needs three months to proof its stability. Most of them are playing the role of carries and offlane. It would take sometime to see how much progress that Ehome Malaysia would do Pre-TI5 achievement wise in LAN and online competitions. I believed Mushi knows it best how to lead the team. We shall see about it.

9. What is your favourite Dota 2 team in the world?

I would support Team Secret as my favorite. They have Puppey and s4 in a team. Both are former TI champion and captains of their own caliber. And with the addition of Arteezy , Zai and Kuroky. This team is still new and would be a fearsome opponent in the actual main event of TI5.

10. We heard you are also part of Dotatalk in early stage. Is it true? What the issue back there? Do you mind to tell us?

I personally left before it is established. I felt that the website and fanpage itself reeks of suspicion. And for your information, I left in just a day! My instincts are almost equivalent to Mangekyou Sharingan from Naruto anime. No pun intended. If a boss does not treat you equally as a human entity, you can just retire for the better organizations be it office or gaming world.

11. We also heard about your comments regarding Team Redemption and their current manager Teng Dawei. Do you mind to explain about your relationship with them?

I have no direct connection with them. It is just that after occurrence of the matchfixing scandal, it makes them all gullible. I do not support individuals that’s involved just for being greedy for profit or fame. Fame and etc comes naturally. Noticed that as an advise.

12. Alright! Thanks for your time. Do you have any shoutout or comments to add before we end this interview

Shoutout to Ohaiyo, Eken , Cooper , IceCutter , Meracle and those who played DotA to Dota2 with me during the moments I still play progressively. And now I am focusing on Hearthstone as a semi-pro competitive player. Hope to see you guys around as well. Cheers!
